Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a vein condition in which the vein walls and tiny valves that push the blood are ineffective. The blood does not get pushed back to the heart and lungs efficiently so it pools in the vein causing it to stretch and bulge. After some time, this results in varicose veins. While they may not be a major health hazard at first they can develop into a serious problem if not treated. We can help your CVI and permanently remove varicose veins.
Chronic venous insufficiency may be caused by lifestyle habits, pregnancy, and heredity. If you sit for hours every day at work, the heart and veins need to overwork to try to push the blood back to the heart and lungs. After some time, the stress is too much and the veins become weak.
The same can be said for standing for long hours every day. If your job requires you to stand most of the time, you need to take a break several times a day and put your feet up. If you sit all day, you should get up every hour and walk for a few minutes. Pregnancy and obesity also block circulation and make the heart work harder.
When you talk to our specialist, your veins will be examined. We offer several treatments, and they will be discussed with you. After treatment, your damaged veins may be gone, but without lifestyle changes, you could develop CVI in other leg veins. The main treatments are:
Radiofrequency ablation, also nonsurgical, uses heat to damage the vein. The vein is damaged, collapses and becomes absorbed and eliminated by the body.
Phlebectomy is a procedure that removes the varicose vein, thus eliminating the ropey, bulging appearance of the vein.
Sclerotherapy injects a chemical directly into the damaged vein. The solution damages the vein wall and valves causing them to collapse. The body will gradually absorb the damaged vein and it will disappear in a few weeks.
With any of the above procedures, you do not need a hospital stay and can go home the same day. You may be asked to wear compression stockings for a week or two after the treatment and to walk for at least 30 minutes a day to strengthen the leg muscles that help push the blood back to the heart.
Varicose veins can be unsightly and may cause embarrassment during the warmer weather when you wear summer clothing. Fortunately, you do not need to suffer with them any longer if you let us help your chronic venous insufficiency. Contact Rejuveination, located in Cincinnati, to schedule a consultation today!
