Varicose veins can really affect your confidence and self-esteem in a most negative way. These near-surface, bluish or purple prominences aren’t a symptom of a serious medical condition, but they can affect the overall circulation in the affected area. Various treatments are available, and one or more of these treatments are suggested by our medical professional, depending on the severity of the problem, where it’s located, and whether at-home treatments have been unsuccessful. At Rejuveination, our services are available to all who live in and around Cincinnati, including services such as vein surgery.
Causes of Varicose Veins
Genetics plays a factor, but more likely the appearance of a varicose vein at any given time in a person’s life is often caused by fluctuations in weight, the amount of stress put on the muscles and circulatory system, and hormonal imbalances.
Varicose veins appear on the legs more often than anywhere else on the body. If you stand up for a long period of time each day, perhaps because of the job duties you perform, the leg veins can become weakened. Some individuals are born with weak vein valves, and this can eventually result in redirection of the blood flow.
Consultation and Treatment
We want to consult with the client first so that we can review medical history and view the varicose vein first-hand. This will give us a good idea as to whether surgery is a viable treatment.
Vein surgery to correct the appearance of varicose veins is actually a simple procedure.
Radiofrequency ablation is performed by directing a concentrated radiofrequency wave at the vein junction. The vein wall is cauterized. The affected vein will become waste material over the next several weeks.
Sclerotherapy is performed by injecting a saline solution directly into the vein. The solution causes irritation of the vein walls, and very soon the vein will constrict. Blood flow is directed elsewhere, and the vein soon becomes discarded tissue, flushed out along with other waste. All of the scar tissue is discarded, so the client need not worry about visible scarring afterward.
Our decision to perform one or the other of these treatments depends on the size and location of the vein, the thickness of the skin, and the amount of blood flow through the veins. Recovery is quite swift, and the client may experience no downtime at all. We may recommend dietary changes, and we may suggest that compression stockings be worn for a time after surgery.
