Rejuveination offers vein ablation treatments for patients who may be suffering from chronic venous insufficiency disease (CVI). Vein ablation can be used to improve the appearance of legs by eliminating unwanted varicose veins in the lower leg area. Varicose veins can be uncomfortable, and can also have a negative impact on appearance for some individuals. They can also lead to progressive complications, with one having a significant impact being limb health.
Many of those who are diagnosed with leg ulcers come from the result of untreated circulatory issues. In addition, many individuals who leave the condition untreated can possibly develop inflammation and internal tissue damage. These are some of the many characteristics of Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Fortunately, there are a number of incredibly effective treatments for those who wish to rid their unwanted varicose veins. Among these treatment options is the most common and minimally invasive: vein ablation.

Endovenous ablation treatment uses heat to damage and close vessels from a varicose vein. Varicose veins are the twisted, swollen veins that result from irregular blood flow in the leg and ankle area. Treatments via endovenous ablation eliminate varicose veins by closing them and redirecting blood flow to healthier veins. Fortunately, vascular endovenous ablation only causes slight discomfort in the vein for most patients. Because a local anesthetic is used, the actual procedure is hardly painful at all. Here are expectations one can gather from typical endovenous ablation treatments.
When understanding the effects of untreated varicose veins, people certainly have sufficient motivations for scheduling consultation appointments. Beyond the limiting impact of a failed or weak vein, there are a number of important psychological and physical benefits that can be obtained through varicose vein treatment. This can be more noticeably true for those who began developing varicose veins at a fairly young age. After the procedure, a patient’s body will have a better direct blood flow through the affected portion of the leg. Failed veins will absorb into the skin, leaving them invisible to the human eye. These treatments give patients smooth, healthy, and youthful-looking legs that they feel confident with.
Before the Procedure
What to Expect
Because vascular vein ablation is a minimally invasive procedure, there is little risk involved in treatment. When you arrive for the procedure, the doctor will sterilize the treated area. A numbing injection will be placed around the area of the treated varicose veins.
When the area is numb, the doctor will make a small incision in the skin to prepare the insertion of the catheter. At this point, you may feel a slight bit of pressure when the catheter is inserted into the vein. The doctor will then close the varicose vein using the energy from the RF generator.
Once the varicose vein is closed from the heat, the catheter is then removed from the vein. The incision is then bandaged, and a compression sock is placed over the treated leg. This is to reduce swelling and bruising. Compression socks can also minimize blood from clotting in the treated vein.
Normal activities can be resumed almost immediately after treatment. Prolonged sitting should be avoided, and light physical activities should be encouraged. For best results, be sure to avoid any activities that are too strenuous for a week or two.
Vein Ablation Before and After Photos
During the Procedure
Prior to the procedure, the experts at Rejuveination will thoroughly cleanse the specific treated area. Next, we will inject a local anesthetic into the area that is being treated. This is done to decrease any discomfort found by the patient during the procedure. We will then gently insert a catheter into the vein that is being treated. The catheter will then deliver radiofrequency energy to heat the vein and cause its walls to collapse. At this point, it may be normal to experience a slight warming sensation during the treatment, but this sensation is well-tolerated amongst patients.
After the Procedure
After a varicose vein ablation procedure, patients should take the cautionary steps recommended by their medical doctor to ensure a healthy recovery. If you have questions for the recovery process after an endovenous ablation, consult our office for more information.
Usually, many patients will have to wear compression stockings continuously for 3 to 4 days. After those three days, patients may have to wear the stockings when walking for around three weeks. It may also be recommended to elevate the leg as much as possible when seated.
Exercise is often recommended for many during the recovery period. It is suggested that recovering patients should walk every hour for a couple minutes. A daily walk is also strongly suggested. Lastly, any gauze, tapes, or bandages can be removed from the treated area after three days. If any steri-strips are used, they should stay on until they fall off by themselves. Patients may have to return back to their doctor if they have any recovery issues.
Vein ablation treatments will cause the vein to eventually dry out and fade into the leg. This process can take anywhere from 10 to 14 days after a single treatment session. Final results of a radiofrequency ablation treatment will be visible a few months after the completed treatment session. This recovery period is relatively simple.
Patients are typically able to return to their normal activities just days after receiving vein ablation treatment. It is commonly recommended that patients avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and extreme sport activities roughly five to seven days after their vein ablation procedure. The experts at Rejuveination will continue to discuss your recovery process with you even further after the completion of vein ablation treatment.
Possible Post-procedure side effects
There are possible post-procedure side effects that patients might experience after a vein ablation. These symptoms may include:
- Bruising – Mild bruising or discoloration may occur around the leg area. The bruising and skin discoloration only last about three months. On rare occasions, skin darkening may last for up to a year.
- Pain – Patients may feel mild pain after the procedure. After treatment, the leg may feel tender where the local anesthesia was placed. Over-the-counter pain medication can relieve the discomfort.
- Swelling – The leg or ankle may begin to swell following the procedure. The swelling is usually resolved within a few days following the procedure. On a few occasions, swelling may last for a few weeks. Wearing compression stockings may help with any swelling issues.
